Research shows that antibiotics help treat lung cancer

Medical Network February 11th The Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers recently found that bacteria will promote lung tumor cell growth, so in the future people are expected to use antibiotics to help treat lung cancer.
The study, published in the American journal Cell, says that lung tumors in mice can alter the bacterial community in the lungs, causing a significant increase in their total amount, which in turn stimulates the immune system to form an inflammatory environment that helps tumor cells multiply.
Studies have found that lung cancer mice cultured in a sterile environment have a much smaller tumor volume than lung cancer mice cultured under normal conditions. In addition, the use of antibiotics to sterilize or use related drugs to inhibit the immune system to form an inflammatory environment can greatly reduce the number and size of tumors in the lungs of mice.
Researchers say the findings are expected to be used to develop new lung cancer therapies. Human lung cancer patients also have lung colony and immune system changes similar to lung cancer mice, and perhaps antibiotics and related immunosuppressive drugs can also be used to treat human lung cancer.
"This study directly links the development of lung bacteria and lung cancer, opening up multiple potential pathways for lung cancer interception and treatment," said Taylor Jakes, senior author of the paper and director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Cork Comprehensive Cancer Institute.
