FDA and AQSIQ jointly strengthen canned food safety training

From September 13 to September 17, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (hereinafter referred to as the U.S. FDA) and AQSIQ jointly organized a training course on low-acid canned and acidified foods in Shandong to jointly strengthen the transmission of low-acid canned and acidified foods from the United States. In this training, the American expert was led by the assistant director of the FDA China Office, Ms. Yiyi Zhan, senior experts such as Martin Lo, Daniel Geffin, George Evancho, and Raymond Carroll, who gave lectures on the principles of low-acid canned food processing and explained in detail. The export canning factory provided on-the-spot training on key links such as low-acid can sealing, sterilization, and tank inspection. A total of 76 people from the national inspection and quarantine system and key exporting canned American companies participated in the training and passed the exams to obtain a certificate issued by the US FDA. During the training period, the US experts visited the Shandong Inspection and Quarantine Bureau's technology and communicated with the AQSIQ and the food inspection personnel of the Shandong Inspection and Quarantine Bureau on issues of common concern to both parties.

Shandong is the main export canned region in the country, with a total of 135 canned export enterprises. In 2009, 192,000 tons of cans were exported, with a value of 220 million US dollars. The export volume ranks first among all the direct bureaus in the country. Among them, 33,000 tons of canned food was exported to the United States with a value of 28.87 million US dollars. The training strengthened the food safety management exchanges between China and the United States, improved the management level of the canned food processing enterprises in China, and promoted me to develop better and faster export trade with the United States.
