First, living habits

Brazilian tortoises have mixed foods, especially animal feeds such as red worms, small fish, shrimps, snails, oysters, clams, lean meats, and animal organs.

Second, feeding conditions

Brazilian tortoises have strong adaptability to the environment, but they are calm and afraid of noises. Professional breeding is best to build a pool to build a scaffold, breeding containers can use general water basins, plastic basins, glass basins, pools and so on. Generally about 10 pairs of adult turtles can be grown per square meter.

Third, hatching and reproduction

The Brazilian turtle is oviparous and can lay eggs 3-4 times a year. The mating period is usually from the end of May to August, and the spawning period is from June to September. The female turtles produce about 45 eggs every year. Generally, the turtles hatch at 60°C for 60-70 days. .

Fourth, feeding and management

Qualitative: Feed should be diversified. Generally, fish, shrimp, insects, animal waste, eggs and cereals can be fed. Raw and cooked foods can be used, but they should be clean and free of corrupt and rotten bait.

2, water quality management. Brazilian tortoises like to live in a refreshing body of water, so they should change their water frequently and maintain good water quality. The depth of the water layer of the turtle pond should change with the season. When the temperature is low, shallow water is needed to increase the water temperature. When the temperature is high, deep water is needed to avoid exposure to the sun.

3, winter management. When the water temperature is lower than 14°C, the turtle will switch to hibernation without having to feed it. Turtle pools can be covered with plastic film, pots can be moved to the indoor basin.

V. Disease prevention

The vitality of turtles is extremely strong. It is not easy to get sick as long as you observe, manage, and maintain well, and keep the pool water clean. However, in the hatchling stage, 1-2 times oxytetracycline and furazolid should be fed monthly, preferably in alternation. One tablet for each 5 turtles can be dissolved in water. It can also be disinfected with 0.01% potassium permanganate solution, which is excellent for preventing diseases. In addition, special attention should be paid to predators such as snakes, cats, rats, and dogs to avoid loss.
