Feeding dairy cows with silage in winter and spring

Feeding dairy cows with silage in winter and spring

The shortage of green and green fodder in winter and spring, and the use of silage to feed cows is the best way to solve this problem. The silage that enters the pit has been fermented for 45 days, and it has become a high-quality silage with soft texture, sweet and sour taste, and rich nutrition. When formulating cows for silage, the following three issues should be noted:

First, the quality of silage identification

(1) Color: The quality silage has a greenish or yellowish green color. If the color of the silage is found to be black or brown, the silage has become deteriorating and mildewy, and all the silage that has been deteriorating must be removed before feeding the cow. (2) Odor: The high-quality silage smells sweet and sour, with a strong scent or pear flavor. If the smell is sour, it means that mildew has occurred in the silage, the cause must be identified, and appropriate remedial measures must be taken to feed the cow. (3) Feel: High-quality silage is soft and moist, and if it is sticky or dry and hard in the hands, silage has already undergone mildew and must be treated before being fed to cows.

Second, feeding method

Silages are fed to dairy cows and they are fed less, gradually increased, and fed with other roughages such as soy bean, yew grass and cereal grass. When silage is fed, the pH in the rumen of the cow is reduced and acidosis can easily occur. 3% baking soda can be added to the concentrate to promote gastric peristalsis, neutralize acidic substances in the rumen, increase pH, increase feed intake, increase digestibility, and increase milk production. The silage that is fed each time should be mixed with the hay and then fed to the cows to avoid picky foods. Conditional dairy cows, it is best to fully stir the concentrate, silage and hay to make a fully mixed diet for the dairy cows, and the effect will be better.

Third, the amount of feeding

Dairy cows with a body weight of 500 kg and a daily milk yield of 20 kg or more can feed 20 kg of silage each day and about 5 kg of hay; About kilograms. Dairy cows with a body weight of 400 kg and a daily milk yield of 15 kg can feed 15 kg of silage and 5 kg of hay. Dairy cows with a daily milk output of 15 kg or less can feed about 15 kg of silage and about 10 kg of hay. . Cows should stop feeding silage 15 days before and 15 days after delivery. Dry-milk cows are fed with 10 kg of silage each day, and other supplies of hay are appropriate. The amount of silage fed to the breeding cattle should be less, preferably less than 8 kg. Young animals should be fed less or not.
