The self-sufficiency ratio of grain in China is actually less than 90%

Since the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, the Chinese government has always emphasized that the self-sufficiency ratio of grain has reached 95%, but Chen Xiwen, deputy leader of the Central Rural Work Leading Group and director of the office, recently stated that the national grain imports in 2011 exceeded 120 billion jin, accounting for the facts. The overall level of grain self-sufficiency in China is now less than 90%. This shows that China's food security issue is not optimistic.

Chen Xiwen said that last year China imported large quantities of staple agricultural products such as corn, wheat, vegetable oil, cotton, sugar, and pork, among which the main food crops such as corn, wheat, and soybeans exceeded 1,250 billion jin, far exceeding the country's total last year. The total grain output of Heilongjiang Province, a major grain-producing province, is 114.4 billion kilograms.

Chen Xiwen further analyzed that, including soybeans, accounting down, in fact, China's grain self-sufficiency rate is now less than 90%. The Chinese government has always emphasized that grain self-sufficiency rate should reach 95% or more. Chen Xiwen said that in recent years, many domestic agricultural products, especially food prices, have fluctuate frequently, and government regulation has become more and more difficult. The main reason is that the degree of foreign dependence is increasing.
