Business News Agency August 27th According to a recent study in Japan, people with type 2 diabetes who have a resistance to insulin have a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (Alzheimer's disease) than normal people. Insulin resistance is a major feature of type 2 diabetes. The patient's body tissue is less sensitive to insulin, and the resulting metabolic abnormalities can lead to multiple organ damage and functional impairment. The main pathological feature of Alzheimer's disease is the deposition of plaques in the cerebral cortex on the beta-amyloid protein, with symptoms manifesting in varying degrees of mental loss. Researchers at Kyushu University in Japan conducted a long-term follow-up survey of 135 elderly people aged 67 years old and recorded their blood glucose, insulin levels, and insulin resistance. After these elderly people died, they were tested for plaque deposition in their brains. During the survey, 16% of the elderly had symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. The study found that 65% of the subjects had protein plaque deposits in their brains. The elderly people with high blood glucose levels and insulin resistance had a higher chance of developing plaque. In addition, some elderly people have mutated genes that are associated with Alzheimer's disease risk. Among these elderly people, the correlation between hyperglycemia and protein plaque deposition is particularly evident. The researchers said that it is not yet possible to prove that hyperglycemia and insulin resistance are the direct causes of Alzheimer's disease, but this study shows that controlling type 2 diabetes may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and prevent Alzheimer's disease.
