Madagascar discovers three new mouse lemurs

A team of scientists from Germany and Madagascar recently discovered three new mouse lemurs in the forests of northern and northwestern Madagascar. The above findings were published in a new issue of the professional journal Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution.

Wutrad Spiel of the Hannover Veterinary School in Germany said that the three new mouse lemurs are not much different from other mouse lemurs. Some of them are only slightly longer. She explained that the mouse lemurs living in the tropical rain forest distinguished the same species through calls of different frequencies, and the differences in appearance signs between different species of mouse lemurs were not significant. Humans can only find out that they belong to different species through close observation and gene identification.

Rat lemurs are considered to be the smallest primates in the world. They are similar to monkeys, but individuals are smaller than rats. Their bodies are about 10 cm long and their tails are as long as 12 cm to 17 cm. Rat lemurs are nocturnal animals. They sleep in empty trunks or nests of leaves during the day and catch insects or pick fruit at night.
