Ducklings raise five points
Prepare a brooding area and all necessary feeding equipment. Two days before the ducklings arrive, disinfect them using a 10% to 20% lime water solution. Ensure that all feeding tools are thoroughly rinsed and exposed to direct sunlight for 3 to 5 days to effectively disinfect them. It's important to fully dry the tools before use, as sunlight helps in killing harmful bacteria.
Maintain the temperature in the incubation chamber at a minimum of 20°C. If the temperature drops below this, use a coal stove or similar heating source to warm the room. In a greenhouse setting, it’s best to raise ducklings in small groups, ideally around 40 ducks per group. After about a week, they can be gradually moved into larger groups for better socialization and management.
Ducklings should start eating and drinking within 24 to 36 hours after hatching. Before offering food, give them warm water to drink first. You can feed them cooked rice or commercial duck pellets. If using rice, rinse it well and make it slightly sticky for easier consumption. From day 15 onward, feeding can be reduced to three times a day during daylight hours.
Introduce ducklings to water starting on the third day after hatching. Allow them to swim in shallow, clean water and ensure they are dried properly afterward. By day five, you can allow them to drink water up to three or four times a day, which helps with digestion and hydration.
For disease prevention, keep the duck house and outdoor areas well-drained and dry. Regularly change bedding materials and clean the floor. Always wash and disinfect food and water troughs. Ensure good ventilation in the housing area and maintain an appropriate temperature. Clean the duck house regularly and remove droppings promptly to prevent the spread of diseases.
