Writing is such a big part of our household. Honestly, Aliyah is obsessed with pens and paper. She’s constantly asking for something to scribble on, and I’ve learned to keep an endless supply of notebooks and markers within reach. She loves making lists—something I think she picked up from watching me! And whenever she writes notes or cards to family and friends, she insists on signing her name herself. It’s become this adorable little ritual for her.

Aliyah is actually really good at writing her name now. Most of the time, she gets all the letters right without any help. But every once in a while, she still skips the "I" or forgets one of the "A"s. So, we thought it would be a fun challenge to help her practice spelling her full name correctly. That’s where these little alphabet cards came in handy. I printed out each letter of her first and last name, cut them out, and even laminated them so they’d last longer.

For those who don’t have access to a printer or laminator, you could easily create similar cards by hand using sturdy cardstock or even index cards.

Now, she sits down with her pile of letters and sorts them out until she’s spelled her name. It’s like a little puzzle game for her, and she loves it!

Even better? If she accidentally skips a letter, it’s right there in front of her, waiting to be added. We haven’t had many mistakes since we started doing it this way.

Recently, we made things a bit more challenging by flipping the cards upside-down. Then, she’d flip them over one-by-one and arrange them in order. It took a little more concentration this way, but she absolutely loved it.

At the end of it all, sometimes we’d rearrange the letters to see what other words we could form. It’s amazing how creative she gets with just a few letters!

It’s been such a simple yet effective way to encourage her love for writing while helping her learn proper spelling. Plus, it’s turned into a fun bonding activity for us. Win-win!
