“The greatness of a person lies in retaining their childlike heart.†– Mencius Over the past four months, my life has undergone quite a transformation. One of the most significant changes has been moving into a new state and sharing my space with kids. Life gets turned upside down when you’re around children—literally and figuratively! It’s louder, stickier, more chaotic, but also infinitely more joyful. There’s something magical about their pure, unfiltered wonderment, how they can find endless entertainment in the simplest of things. I’ve had some quality moments lately with Tabitha’s littles, and I’ve realized that creating fun doesn’t require much effort. For instance, last week, I simply turned off the lights, cranked up the music, and grabbed a flashlight. What started as a quick game turned into hours of laughter and adventure. You don’t need fancy setups or expensive activities to spark joy—just a bit of imagination goes a long way. Now, don’t get me wrong—it’s not always smooth sailing. Just the other day, Aliyah and I were heading home from the park, and she kept asking me, “What are we doing next?†Honestly, I hadn’t planned anything beyond dinner. But then, as we passed a Dollar Tree near the restaurant, inspiration struck. We popped in and spent just five bucks. That small investment has paid off in spades, leading to days filled with giggles and mischief. Whether it’s singing at the top of our lungs during traffic jams or hunting for hidden gems at the dollar store, every little moment brings us closer together. Surprisingly, these spontaneous adventures have made my own life more enjoyable too. This week alone, we’ve painted together, visited the local pond to feed the ducks, and even held impromptu rock concerts in the car. We’ve climbed trees with friends, searched for sea creatures, and discovered quirky street art worth capturing. A recent trip to the dollar store yielded an arsenal of glow sticks and silly mustaches, providing endless amusement at drive-thru windows and dog parks alike. Spending time with the Little Blues has reminded me how to embrace my inner child. I’d love to challenge each of you to join in on the fun this weekend. Do something playful, something that makes you laugh. The catch? Try to keep your expenses under five dollars. Let’s see what kind of creativity and joy we can conjure up without breaking the bank. Drop by on Monday to share your stories—I’d love to hear all about your low-cost adventures!
