Fun with Aliyah

"Great is the man (or woman) who has not lost their childlike heart." — Mencius

Over the past four months, my life has undergone quite a transformation. One of the most significant shifts has been moving in with kids. Life with children is anything but dull—it's loud, sticky, unpredictable, and absolutely brimming with joy. There’s something magical about the unfiltered wonder of a child, their ability to find endless amusement in the simplest things.

Just recently, I’ve spent some quality one-on-one time with Tabitha’s kids, and I’ve discovered how easy it can be to create unforgettable moments. All it takes is a bit of creativity and imagination. For instance, last week, we turned off the lights, cranked up the music, and grabbed a flashlight—before long, what seemed like minutes had stretched into hours of pure delight. It wasn’t fancy or expensive, but it was exactly what we needed.

Of course, it’s not always smooth sailing. The other day, Aliyah and I were heading home from the park when she asked me, "What are we going to do next?" Honestly, I didn’t have a solid plan beyond dinner. But then I spotted a Dollar Tree right next to the restaurant. We popped in, spent five bucks, and walked out with a treasure trove of goodies. That small investment has sparked days of laughter and endless entertainment. From painting projects to impromptu rock concerts in the car (where we belt out songs and dance like nobody’s watching), each activity has brought us closer together.

Even better? These experiences have rekindled my inner child. This week alone, we’ve done everything from feeding ducks at the park to climbing trees with friends. We’ve even stumbled upon hidden gems like quirky murals to snap photos in front of. A recent trip to another Dollar Tree yielded a box full of glow-in-the-dark accessories and hilarious stick-on mustaches. Armed with those, we hit the drive-thru and the local dog park, spreading cheer wherever we went. It’s been such a blast!

So here’s my challenge for you: set aside some time this weekend to do something playful and spontaneous. Make it something that brings you genuine joy, no matter how small or inexpensive. Try to keep your budget under five dollars, if possible. On Monday, drop by and tell us all about the creative adventures you embarked on! I’d love to hear your stories.

Until then, stay curious, stay silly, and embrace the magic of childhood—no matter your age.

Have a fantastic weekend,

Briony
