They also provide a variety of vitamins, essential amino acids, and trace minerals, making them a natural and wholesome food choice. One of the advantages of growing red beans is their short growth cycle, typically taking only 70-90 days from summer sowing to harvest. First, soil preparation plays a key role in successful red bean cultivation. These plants are not overly picky about soil conditions and can thrive in slightly saline or acidic soils. Before planting, it's important to clear the field of any crop residue and prepare the soil properly. Applying base fertilizer, especially nitrogen and phosphate, helps ensure healthy growth. If there isn't enough time to apply the base fertilizer beforehand, a top dressing can be done 5-6 days before flowering to support plant development. Second, choosing the right time to sow is crucial. Before planting, it's recommended to remove any damaged seeds, broken grains, and impurities. The recommended seeding rate is 2-2.5 kg per 667 square meters, with a spacing of 24-33 cm between plants. When transplanting seedlings, you can choose either single or double planting, and the seedlings should be around 15 cm tall. The depth of sowing must be appropriate—too deep may hinder germination and lead to weak or uneven stands. In case of drought, proper watering is essential to maintain moisture and support growth. Third, timely management of seedlings is vital. Weeding and loosening the soil help promote root development and nodule formation. During the flowering stage, vigorous growth requires pruning, such as removing non-productive branches below the pedicel, to reduce nutrient competition and improve grain filling. Watering should be done before and after flowering to ensure adequate moisture. Red beans are often vulnerable to pests like locusts during the early growth phase, while spider mites tend to appear in dry conditions. Later on, pod borers may attack the pods. Regular monitoring and timely pest control measures are necessary to protect the crop and ensure a good yield.
