Candle Holders

I’ll admit it—I’m a sucker for decorative candles. But after a while, they inevitably burn down to nothing, leaving me with beautiful glass jars that are too good to toss, yet filled with stubborn wax and soot that makes them unusable. After years of letting these sad little candles collect dust in my cabinets, I finally decided to give them a second life. And let me tell you, it’s a game-changer!

If you’ve got some old candles sitting around collecting cobwebs, here’s how I managed to clean them up and turn them into something useful again. It’s not rocket science, but it does require a bit of patience. Think of it as a mini meditation session—just put on some music, grab a cup of tea, and let the process do its thing.

  1. Gather all your old candles in one place. Trust me, this step feels oddly satisfying.
  2. Boil some water in a kettle or a pot. You’ll need enough to fill each jar halfway up to the wax line.
  3. Carefully pour the hot water into the candle jars until the wax is submerged. Be cautious—it’s hot!
  4. Now, step away. Seriously. Let the water cool down completely. This can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours, depending on how much water you poured in. If you’re short on time, you can even leave it overnight.
  5. Once the water has cooled, you’ll notice the wax has floated to the top, forming a solid layer. Scoop it out using a spoon or spatula and discard it. Rinse the jar with warm water to get rid of any leftover bits.
  6. In some cases, you might need to repeat the process if there’s still stubborn wax at the bottom. For me, one of the jars needed a second round to fully clean it out.
  7. Voila! You now have a shiny, empty glass jar ready for its next adventure—whether it’s storing dried herbs, holding makeup brushes, or even housing another candle.

And just like that, what was once useless is now functional again. Not only does this method save money by repurposing old items, but it also gives me a sense of accomplishment knowing I’ve given something old a new lease on life. Plus, those glass jars are perfect for DIY projects or gifting.
