It was last Sunday afternoon when Chris invited his buddy over to watch the football game. His friend has a daughter who’s roughly the same age as Aliyah, and guess what? They’re both pals at the same daycare. When Chris brought up the idea of watching the game, I thought, "Why not?" The girls would enjoy themselves, the dads could keep an eye on them, and I’d finally get a chance to relax.

Things went smoothly, as expected. With kids like these, though, things tend to swing between extremes—either they’re super sweet ("I love you! Let’s brush each other’s hair!") or completely standoffish ("Don’t even look at me!"). But they always end up declaring how great their friendship is after a while.
After spending some time playing in the playroom, they moved the fun next door to Aliyah’s room, right next to mine. Feeling too relaxed to get up, I sent Chris a quick text: “Could you check on the girls? I think I heard someone mention baby powder.” It’s amazing how even small tasks feel like too much effort when you’ve been lounging around all day.
Just moments later, I heard both fathers heading toward the living area.
“What are you two up to?”
“What?”
“Are you using baby powder?”
“What?”
“Baby powder?”
“Yes! We poured it into these bags!”
“Why did you do that?”
“Because we wanted to.”

Curiosity got the better of me, so I peeked in to see what mischief they’d gotten into this time. Turns out, they had emptied two full bottles of baby powder into Aliyah’s doll storage cases. We all had a good laugh, and now her room smells like a spa!
