Material analysis test industry needs to crack the bottleneck

“The number of SEMs in Haidian District of Beijing is equivalent to the total amount in France. This reflects two questions: First, are these SEM devices in Haidian District really used well? First, Haidian District does not need so many electron microscopes. Equipment, is there any problem with repeated purchases?” Li Qiang, the project management department of Beijing New Materials Development Center, was a bit excited when talking about the related issues of material analysis and testing.
In fact, Beijing's material analysis and testing industry has accumulated rich experience after years of development. However, since last year, with the support of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, the Beijing New Materials Development Center has carried out a survey entitled “Technology Needs of Beijing New Materials Industry during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan”. The survey found that compared with the development of new materials industry, Beijing still has many shortcomings in material analysis and testing. The supporting role of analytical testing industry in the development of new materials industry has not been well reflected.
Test technology backwards affect product competitiveness
Li Qiang, one of the main participants in the survey, said that the backwardness of material analysis and testing technology is seriously affecting the market competitiveness of China's products. Taking the rare earth magnetic material industry as an example, China is a major producer of NdFeB products. Since 2000, the annual output of high-performance sintered NdFeB has exceeded 6,600 tons, accounting for more than 40% of the world's total output. However, domestic products are only in the middle and low-end categories, and Japan and the United States are the origin of high-grade NdFeB products. Due to the incompleteness of China's rare earth product analysis and testing standards and technology, it seriously affects the price of China's rare earth permanent magnet materials export products, and suffers huge economic losses every year.
The research report also pointed out that compared with advanced foreign countries, China's rare earth magnetic materials industry has problems of backward manufacturing process, poor product quality and low product quality. One of the important reasons for these problems is that the chemical composition testing and physical property characterization system of China's magnetic materials industry are not perfect.
Experts said that the chemical composition analysis of rare earth magnetic materials as a means of monitoring product quality and performance, its importance is self-evident. At present, there are many manufacturers of NdFeB in China, but there is very little data on the full analysis of this material, especially for some trace elements such as silicon, aluminum, calcium, magnesium, chloride, etc. Control is the main reason for the unstable performance of the product and the low magnetic performance.
Li Qiang pointed out that in the production process of new materials including rare earth magnetic materials, the detection of the chemical composition and physical properties of each link from raw materials to finished products can ensure the quality of the products, and the overall quality of the products is fully evaluated. The application of new materials and the import and export trade provide reliable protection. If the analysis industry can't keep up with the rapid development of the market, it can undoubtedly provide high-tech analytical technology and professional talents to the market, which will undoubtedly affect the competitiveness of related products.
Test resources are scattered and look forward to integration
A professor of the Department of Geology at Peking University collected a number of rock samples that required age determination. Although many units in Peking University and Beijing can measure rock age, the professor sent samples to foreign countries for analysis and testing. "Domestic testing data, foreign countries often do not recognize, in order to send papers in foreign journals, can only send samples abroad for analysis and testing." This is the professor's complaints to reporters.
"This has historical factors." Li Qiang said. Due to the long-term implementation of departmental and block management in China, the research funding has been decentralized, resulting in the lack of comprehensive planning and long-term planning for existing analytical testing methods, resulting in low levels of duplication. In addition, information exchange and resource sharing are not enough, and the methods of various departments are not uniform. The same sample is different from different units according to different test methods. The test results of the same sample are different from the domestic institutional analysis test and the foreign institution analysis test.
"This situation has led to the lack of international recognition of some scientific research results in China. The unstable product quality and high cost consumption have constrained the development of China's science and technology and economy." Li Qiang said.
According to the survey, the utilization rate of the analysis and testing institutions in Beijing has great potential to be tapped. In particular, the utilization rate of science and technology resources in colleges and universities is generally low. In this regard, Zhang Jihong, director of the Beijing New Materials Development Center, called for the analysis of test resources to be shared. At present, the lack of sharing of test resources is not only reflected in the use of instruments and equipment, but also in the lack of necessary exchanges and cooperation in scientific literature, scientific research results, professional and technical personnel, etc., resulting in a slow increase in the overall level of material analysis and testing in Beijing. To a limited extent, it has limited the progress and innovation of Beijing's new materials technology.
Absence of detection and evaluation system hinders development
At present, various materials, especially new materials, although some specific physical and chemical data have been tested, how to summarize, analyze and synthesize these scattered test data and establish a comprehensive evaluation system for materials is an urgent problem to be solved.
Taking green environmental protection materials as an example, with the increasing awareness of environmental protection, green environmental protection materials have developed rapidly in recent years and are increasingly used. However, in the ecological evaluation of green materials, there is still a lack of standard and unified testing methods and corresponding indicator systems.
According to reports, there are three serious problems in environmental protection materials. First, the standard inapplicability, that is, the performance of green environmental protection materials exceeds the applicable scope of the existing standards, the evaluation results have obvious deviations, and can not accurately reflect the performance indicators of green environmental protection materials; second, for the same performance, different industries according to green environmental protection Different applications of materials, with reference to different standards for evaluation, the results can not be effectively compared, can not evaluate and distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of green materials; third, for green materials, the corresponding evaluation criteria are lagging, and It is difficult for individual evaluation and testing organizations to obtain consistently accepted evaluation criteria.
The research report pointed out that the research on green environmental protection materials in China is still in its infancy, new functional materials are emerging, and the lack of scientific material performance evaluation system not only causes disturbances within the industry and within the industry, but also causes huge waste of resources.
