First, the sun Tianguan. Before the field dries out, it's important to clear the fish ditches to ensure they remain open and functional. When watering the field, do so slowly to give the fish enough time to move into the fish ditch. During the dry season, maintain the depth of the fish ditch at 15-20 cm and the gill area at 80-100 cm. Always monitor the fish closely. If you notice any signs of fish floating or showing distress, immediately add fresh water to the ditch. After the drying period, make sure to refill the field with water promptly. Second, pesticide application. In fish and rice farming, controlling pests and diseases requires the use of high-efficiency, low-toxicity, and low-residue pesticides. Examples include trichlorfon, dimethoate, marathon, leaf glycosides, aldicarb, acephate, diterpenoid, leaf blight, and Jinggangmycin, which are relatively safer for fish. On the other hand, pesticides like fish toxin, toxaphene, sodium pentachlorophenol, and pyrethrum are highly toxic to fish and must be strictly avoided. Before applying any pesticide, drain the field and guide the fish into the fish ditch. Close the inlet and block the field before spraying. It's best to divide the paddy into sections and apply the pesticide in stages so that the fish can avoid exposure. The spray should be fine mist and applied directly onto the rice leaves to minimize runoff into the water. Dusting should be done on a sunny, windless morning when there is dew, ensuring better adhesion of the pesticide to the leaves. If fish show signs of poisoning, such as imbalance or unconsciousness, replace the water immediately. Third, fertilizer application. When raising fish and growing rice, human waste must be fully composted before use. Apply no more than 150 kg of organic fertilizer per acre, and use chemical fertilizers sparingly. Safe dosages per acre include 7.5–10 kg of urea, 12.5 g of ammonium sulfate, 5–7.5 kg of potassium chloride, and 5–10 kg of superphosphate. Ammonium bicarbonate is harmful to fish and should not be used as top dressing. When applying fertilizer, keep the water level in the paddy field at least 15 cm deep to protect the fish from direct exposure.
