When planting Chinese cabbage, it's common to encounter issues such as poor head formation or no leaf rolling. This problem is often caused by improper fertilization, inconsistent watering, and the presence of pests or diseases. To ensure tight and well-formed cabbages, the following measures should be taken. First, apply fertilizers wisely. During the head-filling stage, it's important to increase the use of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, along with organic manure, while limiting nitrogen application to avoid excessive vegetative growth. In the early and middle stages of head development, you can apply a mixture of potassium dihydrogen phosphate and well-decomposed organic manure to support healthy growth. Second, manage irrigation properly. Water should be provided evenly and consistently during the head-filling period, avoiding overwatering, which can lead to soft or loose heads. It’s recommended to water the plants in the morning and evening, using about 1 to 1.5 kg of fresh water per plant each time to maintain optimal moisture levels. Third, take preventive measures against pests and diseases. If pests or diseases appear, spray the crops with a solution of 1500 times diluted Farmland Music and a 2500 times diluted mixture of meconazole, repeating this process 2 to 3 times for effective control. Fourth, apply foliar fertilizers. When spraying for pest and disease control, you can add products like Green Fenway 1 at 1000 times dilution, Shennong’s chelated fertilizer at 1500 times, and Yunda 120 at 500 times. These foliar sprays help improve nutrient absorption and promote tighter head formation. By implementing these four key strategies—rational fertilization, proper irrigation, effective pest and disease control, and timely foliar feeding—you can significantly improve the quality and yield of your Chinese cabbage crop.
