Firecrackers, scientifically known as *Scaevola*, are perennial evergreen plants belonging to the Scrophulariaceae family. They typically grow to about 1 meter in height, with slender green stems that have distinct longitudinal ridges. These plants produce numerous branches that grow in a spiral pattern. The leaves are usually opposite or whorled, and most of them are reduced to small scales, with only a few being oval-shaped. The flowers of Firecrackers are arranged in conical cymes, with a pale green calyx and long red corollas. The flower's upper lip is two-lobed, while the lower lip is three-lobed, giving it a slightly two-lipped appearance. The blooming period lasts from May to August, making it a vibrant addition to gardens during the warmer months. Native to Central America, Firecrackers thrive in warm, humid, and sunny conditions. When grown indoors or outdoors, they should be placed in areas with plenty of sunlight, especially during summer, and do not require shading. They are sensitive to waterlogging but can tolerate slight drought. Watering should be done when the soil is dry, avoiding both overwatering and complete dryness. In dry weather, misting the plants can help increase humidity around them. During the growing season, applying a diluted liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer every 10 days will support healthy growth. In winter, move the plants indoors to a sunny location, reduce watering, and stop fertilizing to help them survive the cold at temperatures above 8°C. Repotting should be done once a year in spring using a well-draining soil mix. A combination of 2 parts leaf mold, 1 part garden soil, and 1 part sand, along with a small amount of decomposed cake fertilizer as a base, works well. This ensures good aeration and drainage for the roots. Firecrackers are easy to prune and often trimmed to encourage bushier growth and more blooms. Pruning helps maintain the plant’s shape and promotes multiple flowering. Propagation is simple: in spring, divide the mother plant into 2–3 clumps, trim them slightly, and replant them separately. Cuttings can also be taken from May to June. Use mature stem segments with 3–5 nodes, remove the top tips, and cut off any woody old branches below. Each cutting should be 7–10 cm long, with lateral branches removed. Insert one-third of the cutting into the soil, place it in partial shade, keep the soil moist, and maintain some humidity. Roots should appear within 20–30 days, and the seedlings can be transplanted once they have three true leaves. With their bright red, firecracker-like flowers, these plants bring a festive and warm atmosphere to any space. They are ideal for balcony decorations, indoor arrangements, hanging baskets, or even planted near windows, under porches, or on flower beds in warmer climates. Their striking appearance makes them a popular choice for adding color and life to gardens and living spaces.
