When purchasing ducklings or young ducks, it's important to start their diet carefully. First, soak a small amount of gypsum powder in water until it becomes a light paste, then spray it onto their food so they can consume it. For newly hatched ducklings, provide them with brown sugar water or glucose to keep their energy levels up.
Ducklings under seven days old should not be exposed to water and should not be kept in temperatures above 30°C. They need shaded areas to rest and should not be overcrowded, as this can cause stress and illness.
For the first week, feed them with softened uncooked rice soaked in cold water. Offer meals 5–6 times daily. After 4–5 days, introduce a diluted saltwater solution gradually. Ducklings that have just left the nest and haven't been artificially fed may need to be fed 1–2 times manually.
By day 7, begin training them for outdoor stocking, but avoid direct sunlight. From day 15 to 20, reduce feeding to 1–2 times per day. The best food during this time is earthworms and feces, which help build their digestive strength. At 20 days old, they can be fully released from confinement.
When choosing a stocking area, avoid places where the ground is too wet or muddy, roads that are hot, sewage ditches, cold or running water channels, rivers, or fields recently sprayed with pesticides. Also, avoid areas affected by recent thunderstorms or flooding. Always ensure the environment is safe and clean for the ducklings to grow healthy and strong.
