The key link in brooding

In the past two years, the U.S. market for medicinal products, functional foods, and ornamental plants has shown great potential, and aquaculture has gained more attention. However, growing alfalfa is not as straightforward or easy as it once seemed. Success in cultivation requires a solid understanding of advanced farming techniques. Today, I’d like to share some key management tips for cockroach breeding, which are essential for ensuring high survival rates and healthy development. First and foremost, temperature and humidity control are crucial during the breeding process. The right temperature can significantly boost survival rates. For cockroaches aged 1 to 2 weeks, the ideal room temperature should be around 33°C. As they grow older, the temperature should gradually decrease: 28°C for those aged 3 to 5 weeks, 26°C for 6 to 7 weeks, and 24°C for those over 8 weeks. Humidity is equally important—too much moisture can lead to fungal infections, while too little can cause respiratory issues. For one-week-old cockroaches, the relative humidity should be between 60% and 70%, and after that, it should be maintained at 55% to 60%. Next, proper ventilation is necessary to maintain good air quality. While keeping the temperature stable, you should ensure adequate airflow to help remove carbon dioxide and supply sufficient oxygen for the cockroaches’ metabolic processes. This helps them grow stronger and healthier. Another important factor is density. Overcrowding can lead to stress, fighting, and higher mortality rates, while too low a density may waste space and increase costs. A general guideline is to keep about 80 cockroaches per square meter when they are around 10 days old. Between 10 and 28 days, reduce the density to about 50 per square meter. From 4 to 10 weeks, aim for 30 per square meter, and after 10 weeks, keep it around 15 per square meter. These numbers help balance growth, health, and efficiency. By following these practices, breeders can create an optimal environment for cockroach rearing, leading to better results and more sustainable production. Whether you're new to this industry or looking to improve your current setup, attention to detail in temperature, humidity, ventilation, and density can make all the difference.
